Inlays & Onlays

To preserve more tooth structure and strengthen the remaining tooth, an Inlay or an Onlay can be constructed.

Inlays / Onlays are alternatives to routine amalgam or white fillings and are made from porcelain or gold.

They area much stronger alternative to fillings and onlays which extend over the cusp tips of the tooth can additionally protect the tooth and this avoids you needing a crown.

They are bonded to the tooth and can increase the strength of a tooth by 75%.


An Inlay / Onlay is not appropriate for everyone. If you have a tooth which is badly chipped, fractured, or broken down it is recommended by
Dr. Ahmed to have a crown as the answer to this problem.

A crown is a tooth-shaped 'cap' which is custom made to fit exactly over the tooth. A tooth with a large filling often needed to be protected by a crown.
