What are dental crowns?

Crowns are made by the dentist to restore damaged teeth or those prone to breaking. Teeth with large fillings and root treatments can fracture easily – and so these also should be covered and protected using this method.

They are made by shaping the tooth so that it is slightly smaller in size, and the print of this is taken so that the laboratory technician can make it out of Porcelain. This crown is then cemented with special dental glue onto the tooth.

Crowns can be an appropriate solution for patients suffering from fractured, chipped, or sensitive teeth. It is in essence a cap’ that covers the natural tooth and forms a protective barrier and provides a more aesthetically pleasing look.

When a filling is larger than the remaining natural tooth, the tooth can become weakened. In such cases, a crown is often recommended to provide protection and strengthen the tooth. This is especially true in instances of extensive tooth decay, where a filling would leave minimal natural tooth structure.Dr. Osama Al-Okati and Dr. George Khetab

What are dental bridges?

Bridges are false teeth supported by two adjacent teeth, designed to replace one or more missing teeth while maintaining a natural appearance. They help minimize issues with speaking and chewing. In some cases, we may recommend an implant, which would be performed by our implantologist, Dr. George Khetab. However, if a dental implant isn’t suitable, a bridge can be fabricated instead, anchored by the two teeth adjacent to the gap, effectively replacing the missing tooth. This bridge is secured by crowns on the adjacent teeth, providing a strong and stable alternative to implants and dentures.

Crowns and bridges. We use our teeth for many activities such as chewing, biting, talking, and facial gestures. They play a vital part in our lives. Damaged or broken fillings and fractured teeth are a common problem and have a number of solutions. Crowns are a method of rebuilding the broken down tooth and protecting the remaining structure of your tooth that is left.

Bridges are a series of crowns made to replace missing teeth. A dental crown is a tooth shaped cap placed over the remaining natural tooth. It is recommended when the broken part of the tooth or filling is removed. Is larger than the natural tooth left. Teeth can become weak after having a root canal treatment or if you have a habit of clenching or grinding your teeth called Bruxism.

Your dentist will recommend you having a crown to strengthen your teeth for these reasons as well. A crown can also be used to mask discolorations and chipped teeth. And to improve the overall look of your smile. In your first visit, the dentist will shape your natural tooth to a slightly smaller in size.

Your dentist will design and prescribe the color, shape, and size of the new crown. A print or digital scan of your teeth will be taken and sent to the laboratory, where a technician will make a cap out of porcelain. In your second visit, the crown will be cemented with special dental glue onto the tooth.

Crowns can be made from all sorts of different materials. In the past, they were made from gold and other metals, but nowadays they are made of porcelain, also reinforced ceramics such as zirconia, which has a similar strength to tooth enamel. Bridges are many crowns fused together and used to replace one or more missing teeth.
