How does it work? 

Botulin toxin is used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes .
It is a prescription only medicine which can only be prescribed by a doctor, dentist and nurse, Independent prescribers.

The Treatment  

Your skin will be cleaned and a small amount of botulin will be injected into the area being treated. You will be advised not to massage or rub the treated area and to treat it gently for 24 hours after treatment.

What are the possible side effects of botox injections? 

There is little swelling or redness. Some patients can have a sensation of ‘fullness’ for a short time after treatment.

How long will it last?

The treatment will take 2-3 days to begin and 10 days to reach maximum effect, which will last for 3 to 6 months, and the results will ‘wear off’ gradually.

How often will I need it?

The second and subsequent treatments should ideally be repeated before the muscle returns to full strength, ensuring a longer lasting result each time. It is suggested 4 treatments per year in the first few years, and twice per year thereafter.
If you choose to discontinue treatment, the muscle will return to normal activity and your wrinkles will gradually revert to their pre-treatment state, and continue to develop.

Can anyone have it?

Although research to date has not shown any risk, in the interest of good medical practice, we would not recommend this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What should I consider when choosing this treatment?

Whether or not you choose to use The Facial Rejuvenation Clinic for your treatment, be aware that using inadequate number of units of this treatment in order to reduce the cost, dilutes the effect and you may not receive the desired result or it may not last as long as expected.
What parts of the body can be treated?

The most common areas for the use are the “frown lines” (Gabella) between the eyebrows, the horizontal forehead lines, and the crow's feet or “smile lines” around the eyes, and the bunny lines between the eyes, across the nose.

It is also used to shape eyebrows, to produce an arched eyebrow or a flared eyebrow. It can be used in certain people for treatment of the vertical lines above the top lip, the “smoker’s lines”, and for areas around the cheeks, nose and lower jaw muscles to slim the face.

This procedure can be used where muscular activity causes an undesirable pull on the skin on the face or neck. Good examples of these are the ‘bunny’ lines on the nose, puckering of the chin caused by activity of the mentalis muscle and the platysmal bands, causing wrinkles in the neck.

Wrinkle prevention is extremely effective in treating local hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating). Treatment of the underarm area or palms will reduce sweating by more than 90% and lasts up to 9 months. It is also very useful for sweaty armpits for people who have an intolerance of antiperspirant deodorants.

What this procedure is not !

Wrinkle prevention Injections are not magic. It will not radically change your appearance or make you look like you've had a facelift. It will not freeze your facial expressions. It softens them and works where you want it to. It does not travel throughout the body and only affects the localized muscle that it is injected into.

What to expect from the treatment.

Our doctor will determine exactly where to use this procedure to achieve the best results. No anaesthetic is required. Treatment takes around 10 to 20 minutes. Discomfort is minimal and brief - most clients describe it as an ant bite sting for a few seconds.

It takes 2-3 days for this procedure to begin taking affect and around 10 days to see the full effect. Wrinkle prevention Injections lasts for up to four months. The result will "wear off" gradually and expression lines slowly return. This is because our body re-grows new nerve endings into these muscles. To maintain the effect you will require repeat injections 2-3 times a year.

Are there any side effects?

In the amounts used for wrinkle therapy, the most common side effects are temporary and localised to the area of injection. There have been no permanent side effects of wrinkle prevention injections reported.

The vast majority of patients experience no side-effects whatsoever.

Occasionally, a small bruise at the injection site may occur which will disappear after a few days and can be covered up with makeup. This is relatively rare and should be prevented with a careful injection technique including ice and local pressure.

Mild headaches have been reported in a very few instances, but are again rare. On the contrary, many people who suffer “tension” headaches caused by “tight” muscles usually loose these with Wrinkle prevention treatment.

In extremely rare cases a reversible condition known as Ptosis, heaviness of an eyelid, or brow droop may occur. Proper regard to dosages and location of injection in susceptible muscle patterns should avoid this condition. Lid ptosis is reversible also, by using eye drops for the few weeks if it may occur, which is extremely unlikely.

Do wrinkle prevention injections freeze my face?

No. This procedure only relaxes the overactive muscle underneath the dynamic wrinkle. The other elements of facial expression remain normal.

Our smile is created by the muscles around our mouth and cheeks. These muscles are not treated with this procedure at our clinic, and thus our smile is unaffected and natural.

How long does the treatment take?

A typical treatment of the frown lines, forehead or crow's feet area takes approximately ten to twenty minutes, although we allow at least thirty minutes for a consultation involving a detailed explanation of what to expect. We like you to be fully informed and confident to proceed with treatment.

Is it suitable for Men and Women?

Wrinkle prevention is equally effective on men and woman. Because it is effective for stress (frown) and angry, worry lines, it is popular for many businessmen. It leaves them looking more refreshed, less angry and more approachable.

Most men need slightly more Wrinkle prevention Injections to achieve the same result due to their larger muscle mass.

Will my lines look worse if I choose not to continue treatment?

No. Your lines will gradually revert to their pre-treated appearance. As stated above, your age-lines will then continue to develop, but you will have the benefit of having slowed down the ageing process for the number of years that you did have the Wrinkle prevention Injections.

Can wrinkle prevention injections be combined with other procedures?

Wrinkle prevention injections are often used in combination with all the dermal fillers and ideally should be used to prolong their duration of action. Similarly, it is best to use it in combination with the new self-generating "new-collagen" production treatments.

Are wrinkle prevention injections used instead of dermal fillers or self-generating collagen treatments?

These treatments all do different things. Each of the above treatments has their own, specific advantages.

Wrinkle prevention inections are often combined with permanent and temporary filling agents, especially where deep permanent creases have already formed.

The collagen regeneration treatments such as New collagen volume is also best given in conjunction with ongoing winkle prevention ijections to prevent further wrinkles and prolong their effectiveness. The effects of IPL Skin Rejuvenation are enhanced by Wrinkle prevention Injections, preventing further skin creasing.

How much does it cost?

The cost is variable depending on the number of units of winkle prevention injections to achieve the desired result.
Be aware of discounters offering "cheap" winkle prevention treatments. Inadequate units of solution in a diluted amount that don’t produce the desired result or last as long, but will appear as a lower cost. This is not good value if you do not achieve the result you want.

Most areas need at least 20 to 25 units each. t is cheaper per unit if two or more areas are treated at the same time.
