On your first visit, you will be introduced to your dentist and the dental team. Your first consultation will be undertaken comprehensively to determine the health and state of your mouth. This will include a thorough examination of the soft tissues (Tongue, Cheeks, Throat, Lips) the gingival and periodontal tissues, the teeth and any preexisting restorative work will be assessed. The occlusion (the way in which your teeth come together), your jaw joints will be checked for any dysfunction.

Our goal is to fully evaluate your present dental condition, and give you all the necessary information an education so that you have an understanding on which to base your decision on any treatments recommended to you.

We understand that a dental visit can bring on a little anxiety, so at Longwood House we work to make your appointment as comfortable as possible, in a calm and relaxed environment. You do not need to worry if you are generally a very nervous patient, all the clinicians have a gentle manner and can also provide treatment with the help of sedation.

It is usually necessary to complete your examination with x-rays of the teeth. We will use digital x-rays ( which uses 90% less radiation than traditional x-rays) which is much healthier and safer for you.
Diagnodent – With the use of a special laser pen, we can tell the amount of decay in your tooth. This method of investigation is the latest innovation in caries detection without the need for x-rays. This is particularly useful for pregnant patients and young children, however it can be requested by all!
